UPVC Door & Lock Repair

Reliable 24/7 UPVC Door Lock Repair Services

UPVC doors are robust and low-maintenance, but they do develop faults, often at the most inconvenient moments. A door that won’t lock properly, a handle that’s dropped, a key that turns but doesn’t engage, or a door that simply won’t close or open are all common problems that our locksmiths deal with every day across Surrey, Hampshire, and Berkshire.

In most cases, we can diagnose and repair UPVC door faults on the same visit, carrying the most common replacement parts on every van.

There’s no call-out fee, and you’ll get a fixed price before any work begins.

Common UPVC Door Problems We Fix

The door won’t lock or latch

One of the most frequently reported faults with UPVC doors. Usually caused by the multi-point locking mechanism failing to engage, the door being misaligned with the frame, or the gearbox within the lock mechanism wearing out. We’ll identify the root cause and replace or realign whichever component is at fault.

The handle has dropped or feels loose

A dropped or wobbly UPVC door handle is a common sign that the spindle or handle fixings have worn. In some cases, a dropped handle means the door can no longer be locked, a security issue that needs to be addressed promptly. We carry replacement handles and spindles for most door types and can swap these out quickly.

The key turns, but the door won’t open

This usually means the multi-point mechanism has seized, or a hook bolt or deadbolt within the lock is stuck in the engaged position. It can also indicate that the door has dropped slightly and the bolts are no longer aligned with the keep in the frame. We’ll diagnose and resolve the specific fault rather than replacing parts unnecessarily.

The key won’t turn in the lock

A stiff or seized euro cylinder is the most common cause. Cylinders can seize through lack of lubrication, wear, or damage, including attempted forced entry. We can often resolve a stiff cylinder without replacement, but if the cylinder has worn or been compromised, we’ll replace it with a high-quality, insurance-approved anti-snap unit.

The door is stiff to open or close

Over time, UPVC doors can drop slightly due to hinge wear, the door’s weight, or frame settling. This causes the door to drag, stick, or fail to lock properly as the bolts no longer align with the keep. We can adjust the hinges and restore smooth, secure operation without replacing any major components.

Door blowing open or not closing fully

If your UPVC door isn’t closing fully, particularly in windy conditions, it often indicates hinge adjustment is needed, or the compression seals have compressed over time. We’ll adjust the door and advise on any hardware that needs replacing.

The barrel or cylinder needs replacing

Whether your euro cylinder is worn, has been damaged, or you simply want to upgrade to an anti-snap version, we carry a wide range of replacement cylinders and can swap yours out quickly. We’ll ensure the correct size is fitted to your door; an incorrectly sized cylinder leaves it more vulnerable to attack.

UPVC Mechanism and Gearbox Replacement

The multi-point locking mechanism is the heart of a UPVC door lock. It’s a long steel strip running the height of the door, with multiple hooks, bolts, and rollers that engage with keepers in the door frame when the handle is lifted, and the key is turned. These mechanisms can fail through wear, fatigue, or damage, particularly if the door has been forced or slammed repeatedly.

We carry replacement gearboxes and full mechanism strips for the most common UPVC door systems, including Maco, Yale, Avocet, Winkhaus, and Fullex. In most cases, we can source and fit a replacement on the same visit or return within 24 hours with the correct part if yours is less common.

Security Upgrades at the Same Time

If your UPVC door is in for repair, it’s also a good opportunity to consider a security upgrade. We can discuss whether your existing euro cylinder meets the TS007 3-star anti-snap standard, and whether the door furniture, handles, escutcheon plates, are up to scratch. A door that’s just been repaired to a higher security specification gives you real peace of mind going forward.
